January 2026 Astrology: What to Get Ready For

by Rose Claire

Capricorn constellation

The month of January is a tale of two very different tomes: one with gentle, soul-aligned energy that opens space to recalibrate after the hustle and bustle of the holidays; and the second toward the end of the month, a juggernaut for new beginnings, new opportunities and building a solid foundation for your dreams.

January opens softly with winter stillness holding us, carrying us forth to a Full Moon in Cancer on the third. This moon nudges us to nurture ourselves and reflect on the past year and our emotional state. It asks us to gently release what is no longer serving us and to be loving and caring with ourselves. Take this opportunity to write what you want to let go of—past hurts, anxieties, challenging emotions, people pleasing, over giving, etc. Then, in a sacred ceremony, burn the paper or drop it in water so it disintegrates along with the challenges you’re allowing to fall away. Surrender to the process, giving yourself permission to feel the release, noting any changes in your body. Gently place your hand on any area of the body that reacts (throat, heart, solar plexus, etc.) and breathe peace into it. Know that the space opening within you will allow new energy to flow.

"...cazimis align with the heart of the sun."

The month continues with energy unfolding in delicate waves. On January 6th, the first of several cazimis occurs, starting in Venus, the sign of love, beauty and value. Cazimis activate energy for clarity, so anticipate connecting with a deeper understanding about the relationships in your life and your possessions—who and what do you choose—and why. Since cazimis align a planet in “the heart of the sun,” on this day, the sun will shine light that guides your decisions with pure insight.

Later that week on the 9th, Mars forms a cazimi with the radiant sun, clarifying actions that need to be taken in order to move forward. Mars is the warrior planet and a container of masculine power. It gives us the energy, drive and leadership skills to make happen what we want. Look for an intentional clearing of energy that weighs on you, and then, consciously connect with energy that steels your courage and reveals the purpose and direction of your actions.

The New Moon shines its light on the 18th of the month in the sign of real-world sensibilities and loyalty, Capricorn. This grounded energy invites us to dig deep into our soul and to commit to what we want. It’s the time to form intentions around our callings and to lovingly shepherd them into the practical world illuminated by Capricorn energy. Take the time to listen to Spirit, to hear your soul’s whispers, and then through meditation and conscious thought, allow the path to unfold for you. Honor these intentions, and find ways to build a solid foundation for your desires. This Capricorn vibration bestows the gifts and responsibilities upon you to make it happen.

In fact, this ending may transform your relationship with power and lead you in a completely different direction.
