What the Lunar Eclipse in Virgo Means for Your Sign

by Rose Claire

On March 3rd, a total lunar eclipse will occur at 6:33 AM EST in the sign of Virgo. While the eclipse will be visible in some of the western US and Pacific regions, the rest of the world will feel the impact of this “blood moon,” and it will shake up the energy even more. And, as with all eclipses, that energy may be felt for up to six months.

So, what can we expect from this lunar eclipse? The energy calls us to wrap things up—we’re being asked to let go of or finish whatever we can. We’re also led to check our perfectionism and anxiety at the door, which is more challenging than it sounds, because that, along with the fact that this eclipse is taking place in the midst of Mercury retrograde, dials up the wonky energy. Add to this that several planets are shifting or have recently shifted signs, and we go from wonky to “Holy Sh--!”

So, take a breath. Relax for a moment. And know that it’s going to be all right before you continue reading.

In addition to wrapping up things, the eclipse energy is calling us to review how we’re serving others in the world, as well as ourselves. Are we reaching out to help others in caring and compassionate ways, or are we feeling obligated and depleted? Additionally, this Virgo vibe invites us to check our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, so if we are experiencing burnout or feeling drained, it’s time to say, “Whoa, Nellie,” and take a step back without the anxiety or guilt.

Now, let’s dive into the reality for those of you with Virgo and the Pisces figuring prominently in your charts (sun, moon and rising signs), because this lunar eclipse happens in the sign of Virgo along the Pisces-Virgo axis. To bring a little clarity to this, Pisces and Virgo are opposite signs, so during eclipses, both planets directly across the axis from each other receive an extra dose of the “medicine” of the eclipse.

What’s especially challenging for these two signs during this eclipse is that Pisces is still dealing with the aftereffects of the solar eclipse in its sign last month. Some of these effects were positive, and some were uncomfortable. Based on what we just discussed about opposite signs, that means the solar eclipse upped the energies around Virgos as well. Throw in the fact that we’re in Mercury retrograde, which regularly impacts Virgo and fellow sign Gemini, and that this Mercury retrograde happens to be in Pisces, and Virgos and Pisces have very full plates right now.

(Time for more deep breaths, especially for Virgos and Pisces. Then, we'll start with those signs and what they can expect.)

Virgo: You’re being asked to shed the perfectionistic and self-critical attitudes and to know that you ARE good enough. Think of it this way: You’re so committed to doing A+++ level work that operating at only 50% of your usual efforts is still more than good enough. Shift that spare energy to focusing on health and wellbeing and embracing who you’re becoming. This is the time to reinvent yourself as you let those old identities fall away. And, once again, instead of being critical of the new you, ditch the judgment and bask in the beauty and excitement of your self-reinvention.

Pisces: It’s time to take off the rose-colored glasses and wishy-washy levels of commitment and look plainly at the relationships in your life. Decide whether to move forward or let it go, both in personal and professional relationships. You don’t have to give up your dreams; you just need to ground a little and bring some reality into your line of vision. You can do it, Pisces. Pull in that grounded energy of Virgo that’s floating all around you right now, and watch your life go forward.

And here’s a little eclipse guidance for the other signs. Take a look, and remember to read both your rising sign, if you know it, as well as your sun sign.

Aries: You’re not far behind Virgos and Pisces in terms of energy blitzes right now! With the start of the Year of the Fire Horse and the planets Saturn and Neptune recently stationing in your sign, there is an abundance of energy driving you forward and possibly confounding you since Saturn wants you to color inside the lines (we know you don’t like that). The message from this eclipse is to watch your burnout levels, which Saturn’s structure and energy can help with. Your engine can only go so far with all this fire power before combusting and shutting off, so take care of your physical and emotional first and foremost.

Taurus: This eclipse is activating joy and love for you as well as tugging at your creativity. You may feel pulled to let go of some heavy commitments, and instead, spend time fingerpainting with the kids. Your romantic interests may kick into gear and have you enjoying intimate time with that someone special. And, it’s a great time to pull out the book you’ve been writing and let the creative juices flow as you finish it.

Gemini: With this eclipse and Mercury retrograde occurring simultaneously, you are feeling some of the challenges with your ruling planet especially in the area of technology. It’s okay. You’ll get through. Remember, you and Virgo know how to ride out the storm and take advantage of the good stuff of Mercury retrograde, too. Spend time around this eclipse and Mercury retrograde shoring up security, stabilizing finances and the family. It may be time to move, and you can start the process of looking, but wait until after Mercury retrograde to find your new sanctuary.

Cancer: You’re being nudged to have that important conversation—you know, the one that you want to avoid because of all the emotional fallout. It’s time. And, if you prepare yourself and let go of some of the anxiety, you’ll feel a powerful emotional release after you’ve expressed yourself. It doesn’t matter that it’s both an eclipse and Mercury retrograde, this is something that has to happen so you move forward with true clarity. Just remember to do your due diligence beforehand and practice keeping those emotions on your end in check as much as possible.

Leo: Money is on your mind. But, rather than dwelling in lack, it’s time to release that and open up to the reality that you can succeed personally and financially. On the surface, others see your confidence, but at times, that masks a lack of confidence within. You’re a natural actor, but now is not the time for theatrics; this eclipse is a reality check into creating greater economic security. Time to make that big financial decision; just wait until after Mercury retrograde to act on it.

Virgo: See above.

Libra: You’re known for your social butterfly tendencies, but during this eclipse, it’s all about you—and only you. You’re invited to a spiritual party of one where you dig deep into all areas of interest to you. Give yourself permission to play with Tarot cards, look up those Angel numbers that keep appearing and read your horoscope daily. Then, take a nice long nap to regenerate. You may uncover some info that’s been in the shadows for years. Welcome it.

Scorpio: Your friendships and community relationships might be in flux during this eclipse. It may be time to let go of a relationship that has run its course—and that’s okay. You’ll find a new tribe that “gets you,” because that’s essential for you. That big plan you held on tightly to for so long may slip through your fingers soon, not because you did something wrong, but because you now own a new vision, one that’s more aligned with who you are. Go for it!

Sagittarius: Career. Career. Career. The eclipse has you thinking long and hard about success in your chosen field. You may want to put yourself directly in front of the people who matter in your industry and create serious visibility for yourself. And, if they don’t “see” you, you’re ready to shift in a way that benefits you such as changing jobs or creating a side business to transition to ultimately. Just remember, it’s still Mercury retrograde, so watch how you say things to others, and don’t jump ship to your new venture until after Mercury goes direct.

Capricorn: Get ready to pack your bags, Cap. Now’s the time to plan for that trip you’ve wanted to take for years. In the meantime, put the pen to the paper and start writing. You’ve had an idea for book that you’ve put off because of all the business responsibilities, but you’re being invited to jump on it now. If you need some additional inspiration, read and learn more. You’ll find that this comes easily to you now.

Aquarius: To say it is tax time is an understatement. Aquarius, the eclipse is asking you to get all that debt and your taxes in order. Make sure to dot all the I’s and cross all the T’s, and since it’s Mercury retrograde, have someone else check your figures. Then, take a good, long look at the partnerships in your life, and decide if any of them need to shift or be released. Your priorities may be realigning and certain personal or business ties may not be serving you the way they need to. It’s okay. Just take a deep breath, let go of the control for now and know that it will work out.

Pisces: See above

There’s LOTS of energy swirling about the cosmos right now, and it’s impacting all of us in different ways. The lunar eclipse that we’re going to experience on March 3rd that happens to be embedded in a Mercury retrograde cycle is definitely adding another layer of energy for us to navigate. The good news is that like Mercury retrograde, eclipses want us slow down in certain areas of life. With this particular eclipse, let go of over analyzing every bit of minutiae, ditch the self-criticism, breathe freely and take the time to develop some effective and healthy systems to manage all the powerful fire energy that is driving us forward. Your mind, body, heart and spirit will be grateful.
