Astrology in the Month of M (Part I)

A Full Moon, Two Eclipses and Mercury Retrograde all in March!

It’s March, and both the Moon and Mercury are front and center!

For those who may have sleepwalked through this past week due to the time change (totally get it!), on Friday, March 14, Mercury went retrograde, a full moon glistened in the night sky and a lunar eclipse shrouded that full moon in blood red. Quite a week, astrologically speaking.

This particular lunar eclipse was called a blood moon, a moon where just enough of the sun’s light trickled through to shade the moon an ominously beautiful color of red. Hence, the name blood moon.

So, why am I telling you this after the full moon and the eclipse? Because what is often not known or shared is that these energies don’t just evaporate immediately following the events. They linger, sometimes intensely.

"It’s also key to remember that lunar and solar eclipses come in a series."

Pundits don’t agree on the precise timing, but full moon energy can be felt roughly three- to-four days prior and following the silver orb’s radiant peak. For lunar eclipses, the time period is even longer. It can begin as early as a week before and last up to twenty-eight days later, with residual effects still being felt even up to six months!

That means whatever intention you have for letting go and accepting what is not working for you (which is what lunar eclipses ask us to do) may be a process or have many moving parts. Don’t let that deter you. Just recognize that these types of changes often require some time.

It’s also key to remember that lunar and solar eclipses (we’ll get to this one in another part of this series later this month) come in a series. This particular series of lunar eclipses is on the Pisces and Virgo axis (two opposing signs). Pisces is that dreamy, emotional sign filled with intuition and compassion. Virgo is the intelligent, organized, analytical sign that wants to serve and heal.

So, if I had to wrap up what to anticipate with a lunar eclipse, I’d borrow the immortal (and cheesy) words of Forest Gump: Eclipses "...are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get."

When we think about new series of eclipses, we think about what new seeds are being planted and nurtured into growth. This is only the second installment of the Pisces-Virgo series of lunar eclipses, so it makes sense to look back to the first installment on September 18, 2024, and think about what changes occurred. What new seeds were being planted?

You may not know, and that’s okay. But make a mental note to write down your thoughts from that time in September 2024 to this time in March 2025. Continue doing so as you move forward with these eclipses, or cosmic series of messages.

I’ll give you a personal example. Only five days after last September’s lunar eclipse, Hurricane Helene hit Florida. The Tampa Bay area, where I rented a wonderful condo on the water, was flooded. My home was flooded, and I had to leave. I couldn’t return. In fact, last I heard, the condo I rented was still under repair.

"What new seeds were being planted?"

To add to that story, just three weeks after the lunar eclipse, Hurricane Milton hit the Tampa Bay area, causing even more devastation. Talk about a push for me to make some changes!

Honestly, I still don’t know all the seeds that were planted except that the home I thought was supposed to be my forever home wasn’t. Since then, I have been living temporarily in places, working and evaluating what else needs to change or be manifested in my life. And, though I miss my condo in all its “me perfection,” I like the opportunities that have appeared in the last few months including the incredible beauty of the Central Coat of California where I’m hanging for now. (Don’t worry, Florida friends, I’ll be back this summer!)

So, if I had to wrap up what to anticipate with a lunar eclipse, I’d borrow the immortal (and cheesy) words of Forest Gump: Eclipses "...are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get." In other words, the first thing to let go of in an eclipse is your expectations, because changes can occur quickly and be life altering or slowly as they beautifully and painstakingly reform and reshape your life.

And, if you prepare with that mindset, you’ll open yourself to all the new seeds being planted—all the new possibilities—that are aligning for you.

Stay tuned for more on eclipses and some insights with this Mercury retrograde in Aries!
